Our approach
When you first visit, we set only what’s strictly necessary for the site to work. Analytics and attribution stay off until you opt in via the consent banner, and “Essential only” is always one tap away. You can change your choice whenever you like: use the Cookie settings link in the footer, or your Privacy & your data page.
What cookies are
Cookies are small files a site stores on your device. We use the word here to cover similar technologies too, like the browser’s local and session storage. Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and UK GDPR, we can set strictly necessary cookies without consent, but anything else needs your opt-in first, which is exactly how we’ve built it.
Essential: always on
These are required for the site to function and don’t need consent under PECR.
| Name | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|
| Sign-in cookies | Keep you securely signed in (set by our authentication provider) | Session / refresh |
dc_consent | Remembers your cookie choice so we don’t keep asking | 1 year |
| Security cookies | Protect the site from bots and abuse (set by our infrastructure provider) | Up to 30 minutes |
Analytics: only with consent
| Name | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|
dc_sid (session storage) | A throwaway, cookie-free session id so we can count a visit once. It is never sent to anyone else and is erased when you close the tab. | Until tab closes |
Marketing & attribution: only with consent
| Name | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|
dc_attr_first, dc_attr_last | Remember which channel first brought you to the site and which one brought you back, so we know which of our (non-paid) channels are working | 180 days |
Third-party cookies
We don’t use advertising networks or social trackers. The only third parties involved are:
- Our infrastructure provider sets the strictly necessary security cookies above to keep the site safe and fast.
- Retailers (via Awin or Amazon) may set their own cookies after you click throughto their site, so they can credit us a commission at no extra cost to you. Those are governed by the retailer’s own cookie and privacy policies, not ours. See our terms for the affiliate disclosure.
Managing your choices
You can change your mind anytime through the Cookie settings link in the footer or your Privacy & your datapage. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and most browsers let you clear site data in a click. Essential cookies can’t be switched off without breaking core features like signing in.
Do Not Track & Global Privacy Control
There’s still no agreed standard for how sites should respond to browser “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control signals, so we don’t rely on them. It doesn’t matter much here, though: non-essential cookies never run until you explicitly opt in, whatever your browser sends.
Changes
If we add or change a cookie we’ll update this page and the date above. Questions? Email policies@deals.community or read our privacy policy.
